Liberty 82, Shock 81, OT

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Janel McCarville had a season-high 18 points and career-best 12 rebounds to lead New York over Detroit. She scored four points in overtime before fouling out. Her teammates watched Detroit’s Deanna Nolan miss a shot with 3 seconds left and hung on for the victory, which left the Liberty 2-2 on their four-game road trip. Catherine Kraayeveld added 14 points and Loree Moore had 13 points and nine assists for New York (9-8). Cheryl Ford scored 22 points and had 18 rebounds for the Shock (11-5), who lost their third straight and fell a half game behind Eastern Conference leader Indiana. Nolan, who sent the game to overtime with a late 3-pointer, added 21 points and eight assists and Katie Smith had 19 points.

Storm 71, Comets 55

HOUSTON — Lauren Jackson scored 28 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Seattle. Jackson made 11 of her 17 shots and helped the Storm (10-7) to their third straight win and first without point guard Sue Bird, who will miss at least a month after having arthroscopic knee surgery Friday. Betty Lennox keyed a pivotal third quarter and finished with 16 points for Seattle, which won for the fifth time in six games. Tina Thompson scored 14 points for the Comets (4-13) who were held to their season low in points and have dropped back-to-back games after winning four of five.

Monarchs 85, Lynx 80

MINNEAPOLIS — Nicole Powell scored a season-high 21 points, including the go-ahead basket, for Sacramento. Rebekkah Brunson added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Monarchs, who have won 11 straight over the Lynx. Seimone Augustus scored 23 points for the Lynx, who lost their third straight game. Nicole Ohlde added 21 points and eight rebounds for Minnesota. Kristin Haynie’s short jumper gave the Monarchs a 68-57 lead with 7:34 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the Lynx rallied back. Augustus’ baseline floater tied the score at 76 with 1:45 left. Powell, though, responded with a 10-foot bank shot with 1:21 remaining to give Sacramento the lead for good at 78-76.
