WCI president retires

WARREN — WCI Steel is searching for a new leader after Patrick Tatom retired as president and chief executive.

The Warren steel maker said today that the board of directors has started searching for a replacement.

In the meantime, Michael Buenzow has been named interim president and chief executive. Buenzow is senior managing director at FTI Consulting in Chicago.

“Buenzow has an established record of successfully leading businesses that are confronting change,” said Jack Sights, chairman of WCI’s board.

Tim Roberts, a WCI spokesman, said no further comment would be made about Tatom’s depature.

Tatom, 57, was named president and CEO in January 2004, replacing Edward Caine. Tatom previously was the company’s executive vice president and chief operating officer.
