Concealed weapon suspect, 26, released
GIRARD — A city man has been released from custody on a personal recognizance bond after police arrested him for carrying a concealed weapon.
Police say the weapon was used to threaten the man currently dating his child’s mother.
Joseph Simeon, 26, of East Liberty Street was arraigned Thursday in Girard Municipal Court before Judge Michael Bernard. He will return to court for a pretrial hearing at a date that has yet to be determined.
According to police reports, officers responding to a disturbance behind Girard High School saw Simeon walking in the area of Liberty Street and Highland Avenue. Officers questioned Simeon and found he was carrying a loaded handgun.
Simeon, according to reports, told officers that he had been arguing with the new boyfriend of the mother of his child. He said the other man informed him that he would not be seeing his child again and made several threats toward him.
The two men agreed to meet in the high school parking lot to settle the matter, Simeon told officers. He said the new boyfriend showed up at the school with another man who he believed had a gun and that a third man was hiding in a wooded area close by.
Simeon told officers he pulled the gun out in self-defense.
