Jury begins deliberations in Moonda case

AKRON — The fate of Donna Moonda is now in the hands of the jury.

Jurors got the case at 3:30 p.m. in U.S. District Court here. Moonda, of Mercer County, faces the death penalty if she is convicted of participating in the shooting death of her 69-year-old husband Dr. Gulam Moonda two years ago.

Earlier today, Mrs. Moonda sobbed as federal prosecutors listed her numerous lies during closing arguments. Prosecutors spent nearly two hours outlining their case against her.

Dr. Moonda was shot on the side of he head on the Ohio Turnpike by Mrs. Moonda's lover, Damian Bradford. Prosecutor Linda Barr spent much of her closing argument listing what she said were Donna Moonda's lies. "How many lies it must have taken to be Donna Moonda before and after May 13, 2005. She lied to her mother, husband, her employer, her family and her lover."

Moonda's defense lawyers gave their closing arguments this afternoon before the jury received its instructions and began their deliberations.
