Kent State E. Liverpool campus granted funds for master plan

COLUMBUS — The state Controlling Board approved the transfer and release of $48,000 to create a master plan for Kent State University’s East Liverpool campus.

The funds will be used to develop a master plan, formally documenting future land and space needs at the Columbiana County location, according to state documents.

EG&G Inc. will complete the plan, which will cover the downtown area “bounded by College Street, East Fifth Street, Washington Street and Third Street.”

It will include the university’s main building, its Mary Patterson Building and parking lots. Other facilities in the vicinity include the YMCA and Memorial Auditorium, the Carnegie Public Library and museums, documents said.

“The creation of a university district within downtown East Liverpool offers tremendous opportunity for image/quality of life enhancement and growth for both Kent State University East Liverpool campus and the city of East Liverpool,” the documents say.

The process, which will include opportunities for public input, is expected to take about seven months, according to documents.

In other business, the controlling board approved about $41,892 for new furniture at the Northeast Ohio College of Medicine in Rootstown. The funding is part of a larger renovation project.

The board also approved funding for plumbing and kitchen renovation projects at National Guard Armories, including one in Alliance.
