City, county probe 53 smoking complaints

YOUNGSTOWN — The city Health District is investigating 16 complaints of violations of Ohio's new ban on smoking in public places.

Meanwhile, Mahoning County has launched 37 investigations of businesses alleged to have violated the law. The county's list doesn't include any businesses within the city.

The city is just beginning the investigation process, said Neil H. Altmam, city health commissioner.

The county has issued two violation notices out of the 37 cases it is examining, said Rick Setty, director of environmental health.
