Pelini, Narduzzi head Irish camp

They’ll lead a long list of
former area standouts at the Ursuline High camp.

YOUNGSTOWN — LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini, Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi, Chicago Bears defensive back Tyler Everett and West Virginia standout Keilen Dykes will join some of the area’s best college coaches and players at the fourth annual Fighting Irish skills camp Thursday and Friday at Ursuline High School.

The camp, which is for students entering grades 2-9, will run from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day.

“We feel real good about how it’s grown each year,” said Ursuline football coach Dan Reardon. “Each kid learns a lot of good football skills that they can take back to their programs.”

Narduzzi is one of several Ursuline graduates who will serve as guest instructors, joining former Louisville wideout Jimmy Riley, former Washington State and Montana quarterback Josh Swogger, Penn State quarterback Darryl Clark, Akron running back Alex Allen, Toledo defensive end Joe Underwood, Air Force recruit Matt Yarab and Mahoning Valley Thunder linebacker Tim Frost.

Pelini’s brother Carl, who is an assistant at Ohio University and was the head coach at Fitch High for three years, will also attend. Both are Mooney graduates. Mooney graduates Desmond Marrow (a defensive back at Toledo) and Reno Ferri (Akron’s running backs coach) will also attend.

Ohio State offensive quality control coach Nick Siciliano (a YSU graduate) will be joining three Buckeye players as instructors: defensive back Shaun Lane (Hubbard), long snapper Dimitrios Makridis (Warren Harding) and center Jim Cordle. Everett is also a former OSU standout.

Pitt offensive coordinator Matt Cavanaugh, a Chaney High graduate, may attend. Dykes is also a Chaney graduate.

Former Harding standouts

Several other Warren Harding graduates will serve as guest instructors, including former YSU center Ryan Jewell, West Virginia recruit Sidney Glover, Mahoning Valley Thunder defensive back Maurice Taylor and, possibly, Michigan wide receiver Mario Manningham.

Reardon was an assistant coach at Harding before coming to Ursuline.

“I’ve been around some good players as a coach and a lot of those guys make an effort to come back and help,” Reardon said.

Other guest instructors include Toledo tight ends coach Chris Hedden and Colorado running backs coach Darian Hagan.
