Men's hoops teamto play E. Kentucky
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown State men's basketball team (9-13) will host Ohio Valley Conference member Eastern Kentucky (11-9) in the 2007 O'Reilly's ESPNU BracketBuster on Feb. 17 at the Beeghly Center.
It will part of a men's and women's basketball doubleheader. Game time is yet to be determined.
The Penguins and Colonels have met 15 times previously in the 1980s when YSU was a member of the OVC, but have not played each other since the 1987-88 season.
Eastern Kentucky owns a slim 8-7 advantage in the all-time series. Youngstown State, however, owns a 4-3 record against Eastern Kentucky in games played at the Beeghly Center.
Hubbard's Younkins picks Penguins
HUBBARD -- Hubbard High School senior Joel Younkins made a verbal commitment to continue his football career at Youngstown State University.
After being courted by several Div. II colleges and drawing interest from some Mid-American Conference schools, Younkins decided on the Penguins.
"I saw a lot of Div. II schools," Younkins said. "They made it real hard. YSU just seemed to be the most comfortable school for me to attend.
"The MAC was interested but it was iffy. YSU recruited me real hard since Day One."
Younkins is 6 feet 11/2 inches tall and weighs 225 pounds. He played running back and linebacker at Hubbard. He rushed for more than 800 yards as a senior and carries a 3.1 grade-point average.
Correction
McDONALD -- Tuesday's story on McDonald schools hiring Dan Williams as football coach incorrectly said that the school board's decision to advertise for a new coach was unanimous. Board member Robert Jones said he did not vote for advertising for a new coach.
Ursuline changesgame times
YOUNGSTOWN -- Game times for the Ursuline High girls basketball games on Saturday against Mooney in the Irish gymnasium have been changed. The freshman games is set for 1 p.m., followed by the junior varsity game at 2:30 p.m. and the varsity at 4 p.m.
Swogger to playin game in Texas
MISSOULA, Mont. -- University of Montana quarterback Josh Swogger, an Ursuline High graduate, will play in the first Texas Versus The Nation all-star football game on Friday at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, Texas.l
Swogger, a 6-5, 235-pound senior, is a Vienna native and will play on the Texas team.
He was a second team All-Big Sky Conference pick at Montana last season when he started in 13 of 14 games and passed for 2,288 yards and 15 touchdowns. He was instrumental in the Grizzlies' 12-2 overall record and 8-0 Big Sky Conference mark.

Hiram womenlose, 60-52
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Hiram College women's basketball team was defeated by Allegheny (Pa.) College, 60-52, in a North Coast Athletic Conference game in Meadville, Pa.
Senior three-time All-NCAC forward Cassie Bedard scored a team-high 17 points and moves up to third on Hiram's all-time scoring list with 1,373 career points surpassing former Terrier standout Dawn Martin's ('01) mark of 1,360 points.
The Terriers are 6-13 overall and 1-9 in the NCAC. Allegheny improves to 13-6 overall and 7-4 NCAC.
Browns' Winslow undergoes surgery
CLEVELAND -- Browns tight end Kellen Winslow underwent arthroscopic surgery Tuesday to remove scar tissue and repair cartilage damage in his right knee.
Winslow, who injured the knee in a May 2005 motorcycle accident, was released from the Cleveland Clinic and is expected to make a full recovery. Team physician Dr. Anthony Miniaci performed the surgery.
Winslow started all 16 games for the Browns last season, often playing in pain and limited in his blocking ability because of the knee.
Also on Tuesday, Cleveland named Ted Daisher as special teams coordinator, replacing Jerry Rosburg, who left after six seasons for the same job with the Atlanta Falcons.
OSU playersin mourning
COLUMBUS -- Ohio State players Greg Oden and Othello Hunter will have heavy hearts when they step on the floor tonight to play Purdue.
Oden, one of the most acclaimed big men in the game, left the Buckeyes on Tuesday to return to his childhood home in Terre Haute, Ind., for the funeral of a close friend killed in a car accident last weekend.
Niners sueover stadium
SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco 49ers have filed a legal claim against their home city over leaky luxury boxes, flooded parking lots and other maintenance problems at city-owned Monster Park.
The claim filed Monday, part of an ongoing battle with the city over a new stadium, alleges the city has violated terms of the stadium lease by failing to make necessary repairs after years of complaints, costing the team revenue.
