Trumbull County to award $2.5 million
WARREN — Trumbull County commissioners are set to award contracts Wednesday totaling $2,533,489 to five companies to renovate the Park-Porter Building downtown for use by the county’s Department of Job and Family Services.
Four of the five contracts being recommended by architect Bruce Sekanick of the Warren company Phillips/Sekanick and the county’s chief building official, David Zofko, are the lowest bidder.
However, Sekanick said he and Zofko are recommending that the commissioners award the second-lowest bidder the contract for the electrical work because W.T. Leone’s Tri-Area Electric Co. of Wayne Avenue, Youngstown, withdrew its bid after realizing it had made a mistake.
The second-lowest bid is Waynco Electrical Contractors Inc., of North Main Street, Mineral Ridge. Its bid is $584,900. Leone’s bid was $498,100.
The four other parts of the contract expected to be approved are:
General contractor — DSV Builders Inc., North Main Street, Niles, $1,160,000.
Heating, ventilation and air conditioning — York Mahoning Mechanical Contractors, Canfield Road, Youngstown, $678,700.
Plumbing — Western Reserve Mechanical Inc., South Main Street, Niles, $58,189.
Fire protection — North Coast Fire Protection Inc., North Park Avenue, Warren, $51,700.
Officials expect to have the renovation complete by July 1, 2007, so that the JFS and its One Stop jobs office can move in.
Holko Enercon Inc. of Fowler and Durolast of Saginaw, Mich., are about 40 percent done installing a new roof on the building at the corner of Park Avenue and Porter Street at a cost of $166,300. That contract was awarded in November.
Adding the roof to the five other contracts totals $2,699,789 for the renovation.
