Ohio native killed by explosive in Iraq

BATAVIA, Ohio (AP) -- An Ohio native was killed Saturday in Iraq when an explosive struck his humvee in Anbar province, his stepfather said Monday.
U.S. Army Sgt. Phillip McNeill, 22, was deployed to Iraq in September for a second tour of duty after about three years in the military. He had most recently been stationed in Wainwright, Alaska, said his stepfather, Clermont County Deputy Sheriff Jeff Fiely.
The U.S. Department of Defense had not yet confirmed the death.
When his family sent care packages, McNeill insisted that they have enough cookies or clean bedsheets for everyone in his unit, said his mother, Angela Fiely.
McNeill didn't talk much about Iraq other than to say he was there to "get the job done," Jeff Fiely said, adding that McNeill hadn't yet decided if he wanted to make the Army a career.
