The Howland Board of Education on Monday:
Authorized the treasurer to advertise for bids to upgrade bleachers at the football stadium. Superintendent John Rubesich said nearly 150,000 will be spent to replace wooden bleachers with aluminum bleachers on each end of the home side of the field and on the entire visitor's side. Plates will be added between the seat and foot rests so children can't slip under the bleachers and fall to the ground. The repairs were recommended by the district's insurance carrier.
Heard Rubesich announce that a regional meeting will be at 4 p.m. Feb. 13 at Lakeview High School to explain the proposed state constitutional amendment to fund schools. The meeting will involve students, parents, school board members and unions to explain getting 1.8 million signatures to place the issue on the November general election ballot. The superintendent said the proposal aims to provide adequate funding for public schools in Ohio.
