Man arrested after shot is fired

YOUNGSTOWN -- A city man is being held in the Mahoning County jail after family members say he tried to shoot his brother Saturday evening.
According to police reports, officers were called to a home in the 800 block of Lakewood Avenue at 7:45 p.m. on a report that shots were fired. Officers arrested Sterling Hicks, 45, of 829 Lakewood Ave., on a charge of felonious assault.
Reports say officers spoke to several of Hicks' family members and were told that he was arguing with his mother, which caused his brother to attempt to call police from the home of a sister who lived next door.
Officers were told that Hicks attacked his brother from behind before the brother could get to the sister's home.
A struggle between the brothers took place with Hicks falling down, then getting up, pulling out a gun and firing one shot at his brother, who was not hit because the gun misfired, police said.
The brother hid in the sister's house until officers arrived. Hicks returned home after firing the shot, officers were told.
Officers searched the home Hicks' shares with his brother and mother and found a handgun under the mattress in the room in which Hicks sleeps.
Reports say the gun had a misfired bullet.
Officers also found four bullets on Hicks while he was being booked into the county jail.
