YSU Penguins stomped, 83-49; Phoenix win 12th straight game

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Youngstown State women's basketball team ran into a hot-shooting UW-Green Bay squad, which sot 54.7 percent from the field, and Horizon League player of the year Nicole Soulis scored a game-high 22, points as the Penguins lost, 83-49, Saturday at the Phoenix Sports Center.
Sophomore Monique Godfrey led the Penguins (4-13, 2-5 HL) with 13 points, including three 3-pointers.
Green Bay (15-3, 6-0) won its 12th straight game.
The Phoenix shot 68 percent from the field (17-of-25) in the first half in building a 47-25 lead.
Green Bay scored the game's first five points, had the margin into double figures (15-5) with less than four minutes elapsed, and by the halfway point of the period led 30-11.
Youngstown State never got closer than 25 points in the second half, although Godfrey scored seven points after the intermission, and Nikita Lafleur had eight rebounds (she finished with nine for the game). Lauren Branson had four assists for the game.
The Penguins were done in by 35 percent shooting (19-of-54), a 33-28 deficit in rebounds and 22 turnovers.
Also for Green Bay, Natalie Berglin posted 13 points while Kati Harty and Erin Templin each added 11.
The Penguins return home to play host to Cleveland State next Saturday, at 2:05 p.m. at Beeghly Center.
