Meeting set for CISV program
BOARDMAN -- There will be an informal meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross for anyone interested in participating in an international program with Children's International Summer Village.
CISV aims to prepare individuals to become active and contributing members of a peaceful global society. The Youngstown-Cleveland Chapter of CISV is accepting applications for youth and adult leaders to travel this summer.
There are openings for 11-year-olds and a female leader to go to Norway, and for 11-year-olds and a male leader to go to Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The Red Cross also is looking for 13- and 14-year-old pupils to do an interchange program to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in July.
These youths will be matched with a Brazilian family with a child of the same age. The Brazilian children will then come and stay with the local family for three weeks in December. The Red Cross also is recruiting a leader to travel with the interchange program.
In addition, there are junior counselor openings for a 16- or 17-year-old male to travel to Bologna, Italy, or for a female of a similar age to travel to Sao Paulo.
Interested parties should contact Heidi Saleh, recruiting chairwoman at (330) 533-3939. The meeting will be at the Red Cross office at 8392 Tod Ave. (rear entrance).
