Baby is 'serious'

YOUNGSTOWN — A 7-month-old Almyra Avenue girl was in serious condition Saturday night at Akron Children’s Hospital after being left unattended in a bathtub.

Youngstown police said Kha-Niyah Williams was unresponsive and not breathing when they reached her home at 7:10 p.m. Friday. Police said the child’s mother, Shareitta Buffington, 20, told them she put Kha-Niyah and a 2-year-old in the bathtub and left to find some baby wash. When she returned Kha-Niyah was face down in the water.

Others in the house responded to the mother’s screams and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Paramedics took the child to Beeghly Medical Center and she was flown to Akron about an hour later.
