Rayen's Taylor nears milestone



Mooney and Warren Harding also won Steel Valley Conference games.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Junior Brittany Taylor scored 19 points to give her 997 for her career, as the Rayen High girls basketball team romped past Wilson, 83-23, in a Steel Valley Conference game on Thursday.
Taylor, who also had 10 steals and four rebounds, will try to reach and surpass the 1,000-point mark on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. when Rayen (8-2) plays host to Mount Dechantal.
Tiara Heard added 15 points while Tieara Jones had 14 points, 11 rebounds, three steals and two blocked shots to reinforce Rayen. Jaleesa Beverly tacked on 10 points and seven rebounds.
Wilson (2-11) was led by Whitli Sanders with eight points, three rebounds and three steals, while Marcinde North contributed eight points and four steals.
Mooney 70, Chaney 23
YOUNGSTOWN -- Katie Hughes scored seven of her 19 points in the second quarter as Mooney outscored Chaney 25-7 to take control.
Sarah Pelini added 17 points for the Cardinals (10-3, 2-0 SVC).
Aylssa Sykes led Chaney (3-10, 0-3) with 17 points.
Warren Harding 52, Beaver Local 50
WARREN -- With the scored tied 35-35, the Raiders outscored the Beavers 17-15 in the final quarter for the victory.
Jasmine Kirkland scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to spark the Raiders. Megan Rajko led the Beavers with 13 points.
Wellsville 56, Western Reserve 44
BERLIN CENTER -- Jasmine Richardson scored 24 points and led Wellsville to victory against Western Reserve in an Inter Tri-County League Tier Two game.
Marie Keller added 12 for the winners (6-8).
Ellie Sanders had 14 points and Lanie Kekic added 13 for the Blue Devils (4-9).
Lowellville 66, Southern 32
LOWELLVILLE -- The Rockets were in complete command by halftime 39-9.
Ali Grapevine, who paced the Rockets with 25 points, scored 15 of them in the first quarter. Kristen Pallozzi chipped in with 14.
Lowellville had a 42-25 rebounding advantage with Grapevine grabbing 13. Jacque Schrader had six steals.
McDonald 49, Jackson-Milton 43
NORTH JACKSON -- The Bluejays rallied 8-2 in the fourth quarter to tie the score 39-39, but the Blue Devils bounced back 10-4 in the fourth period.
Emily Dolsak scored 21 points to pace the Blue Devils.
Carrie Fiol led the Bluejays with nine points.
Leetonia 40, Sebring 37
LEETONIA -- The Bears (4-9, 2-5 Tier Two) had a 33-29 lead after three quarters and held on for the victory.
Deidra Currie scored 14 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had five steals for the Bears. Sarah Weikart chipped in with 10 points and had five steals.
Julia Grimsley led the Trojans (6-7, 2-5) with 14 points and she pulled down 16 rebounds. Megan Allcorn added 14 points.
Mineral Ridge 36, East Palestine 27
MINERAL RIDGE -- The Rams built a 22-10 lead by intermission and held on for the victory.
Heather Reinhart sparked the Rams with 22 points. Nicole Honsaker added seven.
Erin Reese led the Bulldogs with 11 points.
United 59, Columbiana 58
HANOVERTON -- The Golden Flashes put four players in double figures to prevail.
Maggie Sell scored 16 points for the Golden Eagles (9-3, 6-1 Tier One). Courtney Baker added 14, Maggie Miller 12 and Lindsay Firth 10, who also grabbed six rebounds.
Katie Johnson and Katie Douglas led the Clippers with 30 and 18 points respectively.
Hubbard 52, LaBrae 25
HUBBARD -- The Eagles built a commanding 33-13 lead by the end of the third quarter and the Vikings couldn't recover.
Sophie Paddock scored 16 points to pace the Eagles. Tressa Scahill and Cara Julian each had seven. Angelica Pugh led the Vikings with 19 points.
