Trumbull 911 workers to be honored Thursday

WARREN — Three call-takers and a supervisor with the Trumbull County 911 Center will be honored Thursday by county commissioners for quick work in assisting a man whose wife threatened to kill him.

Michael Dolhancryk, 911 director, sought the recognition for call-takers Alan Prox, Jeffrey Ford and Melissa Taylor and supervisor Dale Hahne for a call Nov. 15, 2006, in which the workers determined the location of a dangerous situation and helped the police resolve the issue peacefully.

Prox received the call from a crisis intervention group operating out of Community Solutions Association of Warren in which a 51-year-old Champion woman gave her name and said she was going to shoot her husband and kill herself.

Consulting with Champion police, the workers were able to locate previous calls involving the woman and determine her address. Champion officers responded to the address and called for assistance after reporting “shots fired.”

The workers used telephone and radio to call for the help while assisting the officers at the scene. Officers wrestled the gun from the woman.

“From the initial reception of the call through the efforts to locate the potential tragedy to providing the assistance and backup after the ‘shots fired’ call, they were calm, committed professionals, who performed to the highest standards,” Dolhancryk told commissioners in a letter.
