School bus driver cited in Columbus accident

COLUMBUS (AP) -- A school bus driver was cited in an accident with a car that left a high school student with a minor injury Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Linda Daniels, a district bus driver for 17 years, was ticketed for failing to yield on a left turn, police officer William Kiser said.
Thirteen high school students were on the bus on the city's southeast side, heading to Northeast Career Center, a technical school, when the accident occurred shortly before 7 a.m., said Lee Cole, a school district spokeswoman.
The injured student was taken to Columbus Children's Hospital as a precaution, to be checked out for possible whiplash, Cole said.
The driver of the car, Wilbur Thornton, told Columbus TV station WCMH that he couldn't avoid the collision after Daniels moved into his path while turning.
The hospital was not able to release information on the injured student, a spokeswoman said.
The bus driver was assigned a desk job pending the investigation, the district said.
