For CIC, items on agenda show no progress

LISBON -- The Columbiana County Community Improvement Corp. was zero for three on Tuesday.
Colfor Corp. was on the agenda to seek financial assistance from the CIC. But Jim Hoppel, a county commissioner and CIC member, said the company was holding off on taking any action for the time being. He declined further comment.
Colfor, a forge, has operations in Salem and New York state. The company is rumored to be interested in expanding its Salem operation.
CIC officials also said they had heard no more about a proposal made last year to open an upscale restaurant in downtown Salem.
City council in Salem had been asked by the promoters in 2005 to help obtain a liquor license for the restaurant. The CIC said it and the state were working on the proposal but had not heard anything from the developers.
CIC officials also said they hope to recover some of the 37,928 loan it is owed by Cinnamon Moon Bakery. The bakery was open in Lisbon for about three weeks in June 2006 before going out of business. The CIC has filed an action in U.S. Bankruptcy Court to try to recover the loan.
