CORTLAND City council

Council met Tuesday night and handled these matters:
Authorized the mayor to enter into a 367,515 contract with JCM Contracting Inc. of New Springfield for construction of the Southern Water Extension Project. JCM was the lowest of 12 bidders and was recommended by project engineer MS Consultants Inc. of Youngstown. The project calls for the installation of a 12-inch line along state Route 46, south from Route 5 to Windsor Drive. It will increase water flow to south-side residents and allow the city to sell water to some Bazetta Township residents.
Passed a resolution supporting an application through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to buy playground equipment at Willow Park.
Authorized a one-time payment of 3,415 as the city's contribution to the Trumbull County Demand Response Public Transit Service. The service provides on-demand transportation to its member communities of which Cortland is one.
Authorized the mayor to enter into an agreement with MS Consultants for designing the Main Street Resurfacing Project. The project is estimated to cost 625,000. It calls for the resurfacing of Main Street, except for the downtown. The amount of the agreement with MS will be negotiated later.
Heard Fire Chief Bill Novakovich report he plans to recommend that council replace the city-operated ambulance. The current ambulance has nearly 100,000 miles on it and a new one can be bought for less than 100,000, he said. Mayor Curt Moll suggested the chief look at possibly leasing an ambulance to lower the cost.
