Chase after break-in injures cop
WARREN – A 37-year-old Youngstown man is being held in lieu of a $100,000 bond on a charge of taking $65,290 in watches from a jewelry store
The resulting chase resulted in a police officer being injured.
Antonio Hawthorne, of Bennington Avenue, appeared Wednesday before municipal Judge Terry Ivanchak on a charge of breaking and entering.
He was ordered held in the Trumbull County Jail and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Jan. 25.
Police reported Hawthorne broke the front door window of Duma’s Jewelers, 115 W. Market St., about 8 p.m. Tuesday and fled with jewelry.
Police spotted a man matching Hawthorne’s description on Market and gave chase. When caught, police reported he had 28 watches in a plastic bag.
During the pursuit, Patrol Officer Jeffrey Edmundson was driving a police car on his way to assist when it collided with a vehicle driven by Jonathan Brown, 26, of Warren, at East Market and Chestnut Avenue.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said that Edmundson had activated his lights and siren before going through a red light.
Both Brown and Edmundson were released after treatment at St. Joseph Health Center. No charges have been filed and the crash remains under investigation.
