Taylor and Jones lead Rayen girls to SVC title, 43-26



WARREN -- Brittney Taylor and Tieara Jones turned in outstanding performances, as the Rayen School girls basketball team beat Warren JFK, 43-26, to win outright the Steel Valley Conference championship Monday night with a perfect loop record.
Taylor fired in 25 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had 10 steals, while Jones had 12 points, 10 rebounds, eight blocks, six steals and three assists, as Rayen (16-4, 6-0 SVC), coached by Tanisha Franklin, won its first SVC crown.
Rayen has been in the SVC only two seasons while Franklin is in her second year at the helm.
The Tigers broke a first quarter 11-11 deadlock and outscored the Eagles 10-2 in the second quarter to take command of the contest. JFK (3-17) was led by Angela Mills with 12 points.
Wellsville 59, Leetonia 52
LEETONIA -- Nik Cataldo scored 21 points while Dan Powell tallied six of his 10 points in the final quarter, as Wellsville came from behind to beat Leetonia in a make-up game.
Zane Carter added 14 points and Jeremy Carter nine to bolster Wellsville (14-7, 8-6 ITCL).
Josh Selway had 13 points and three assiss to lead Leetonia (12-7, 6-7 ITCL), while Jake McNally added eight points and Aaron Valentine seven with as many rebounds.
