Surratt believed responsible for Boardman murder

The man who admitted killing four people in Beaver Township in the 1970s also is believed responsible for the March 28, 1978 murder of 70-year-old Katherine Filicky whose nude body was found in a bathtub in her Hitchcock Road home in Boardman.

He hasn’t confessed that murder.

Glenn Bowers, former Boardman chief, said a warrant for Edward A. Surratt’s arrest for the Filicky murder had been issued years ago.

Surratt fled to Pennsylvania and evaded a Pennsylvania State Police stakeout, fleeing to South Carolina.

He’s admitted murders in that state, as well as crimes in Florida, where he traveled next and was ultimately arrested.

He’s serving two life terms in Florida.

Bowers said he talked to Surratt regarding the Filicky case many years ago after his arrest in Florida. He denied knowledge of it.
