Beer run leads to bust

YOUNGSTOWN — A Hubbard man was arrested by city police on Saturday night after patrons complained about an unauthorized beer run at the Chevrolet Centre.

A police report said occupants of a suite reported to the facility’s security at about 9:30 p.m. that two men were climbing into an unoccupied suite next to them and stealing beer.

When a Youngstown police officer checked in the suite, he found one man, Erik Szelest, 23, of Chestnut Ridge Road.   Szelest then jumped out of the suite and ran through the seats in the Chevrolet Centre. At one point, Szelest fell and several cans of beer fell out of his coat pockets, the report noted.

Szelest then ran outside until police caught him under the Market Street bridge. Officers found two 12-ounce cans in his pockets. He is charged with breaking and entering and resisting arrest. Police said he offered to reimburse the Chevrolet Centre $500 for the beer and for damage to the refrigerator door, which had been pried open.
