Workshops target nonprofit boards



CORTLAND -- Three workshops being planned in March at the Agriculture and Family Education Center will teach members of nonprofit boards and their paid executives how to become better representatives for their organizations.
Topics to be covered at the "Great Boards Don't Just Happen" workshops are: roles of the board members, responsibility of the paid executive and staff, fundraising, liabilities, bylaw reviews, meeting minutes, legal information, resolving conflicts and consensus building.
The sessions are being sponsored by The Ohio State University Trumbull County Extension Office, which is in the building at 520 W. Main St. They cost 50 and will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon March 9, 16 and 23.
Mike Wilson, executive director of the Trumbull Soil and Water Conservation District, will be one of the trainers. He has worked in the nonprofit realm for 30 years.
Other instructors are Steve Hudkins, assistant professor of community development for extension office; Atty. Mike Rossi of the Warren law firm of Guarnieri and Secrest; Steve Alexander, executive director of Trumbull YMCA; Joe Konen, associate professor at the extension office; and Gwen Logan, director of development with the Trumbull County chapter of the American Red Cross.
