Police, FBI investigate abduction by naked man

WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) -- Wheeling police and the FBI are investigating the abduction of an 11-year-old girl by a naked man who forced her into a pickup truck and sexually assaulted her before taking her to Ohio and abandoning her.
The abduction occurred two days after a similar attempt five miles away in Martins Ferry, Ohio, Wheeling police Lt. Gary Gaus said Thursday.
The 11-year-old rapped on the door of a house in Bridgeport, Ohio, Tuesday night and told the couple who lived there she had been kidnapped and raped.
Gaus confirmed the girl was sexually assaulted.
Gaus said the girl and a friend were walking in an alley behind a Wheeling convenience store about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday when the man approached them from behind and asked a question. When the girls turned and saw that he was nude, they ran. He caught one girl and dragged her about a half block to the truck, the officer said.
The other girl ran home and told her mother, who called police.
The man released the girl about 40 minutes later. She was treated at an area hospital and is now with her family.
Similar occurrence
In the Martins Ferry incident, an 18-year-old female was approached by a man wearing only a coat and boots. The teen ran and was pursued but made it to her house safely, Gaus said.
Her description of the man and his dark-colored pickup was similar to the Wheeling case. Gaus said he believes it was the same man.
The suspect was described as heavyset, in his mid-20s and about 5 feet 10 inches tall.
