"A Distant Shore: African Americans of D-Day" (7 p.m., History Channel): The untold stories of some of World War II's black soldiers are unveiled with vivid descriptions of images from the D-Day invasion. One soldier recalls hearing slurs from other soldiers on Normandy Beach, and author Yvonne Latty remembers a medic who saved more than 300 lives but was later denied a medal of honor. The program chronicles how many black soldiers serving in World War II endured the indignities of discrimination on top of the risks of battle.
"Sporthorse Cup II" (8 p.m., Animal Planet): The second annual event features seven top riders and their mounts vying for a 50,000 prize in this Olympic-level show-jumping competition, taped Nov. 5 in Syracuse, N.Y. Besides calling the action in the ring, hosts Frank Madden and Tim Ryan also go behind the scenes, giving viewers a glimpse of life on the horse show circuit in the words of the trainers, grooms and owners behind the horses and their riders.
