Weathersfield super gets new 5-year pact

MINERAL RIDGE — Weathersfield Board of Education has approved a new five-year contract for Superintendent Michael Hanshaw, starting Aug. 1 and ending July 31, 2012.

For the 2007-08 school year, his salary will remain at $76,000. Hanshaw will receive a 2 percent increase in the second year, bringing his salary to $77,520; no increase in the third; 2 percent in the fourth year, to $78,070; and 2 percent in the fifth year, to $79,631.

Hanshaw said he is not “getting any more than the last union contract that was negotiated” with nonteaching employees. That contract, settled last summer, gave employees a 2 percent increase in each year of a three-year contract.

“I am looking at keeping the cost to the district in line. I just want to help the community and school district,” he added.

The superintendent has been working under a three-year contract that expires July 31 and was high school principal before that for eight years. He has been working in the district for a total of 23 years.

In other business, the board hired School Business Solutions of Richmond Dale, Ohio, at a cost not to exceed $8,000 to review the district’s financial records and its five-year forecast.
