NFL ROUNDUP \ News and notes

Colts: Peyton Manning has agreed to restructure his contract to save the team nearly 8 million in salary cap space. The Super Bowl MVP was to receive a 10 million roster bonus during the offseason but by converting the money into a regular signing bonus, the Colts can prorate that amount over the remaining four years of his deal. That saves Indianapolis space under the cap, which is 109 million. Manning signed a 98 million contract in March 2004, the season after he shared the league's MVP award with Steve McNair.
Dolphins: Defensive tackle Vonnie Holliday has signed a 20 million, four-year contract to stay with Miami. The deal includes a signing bonus of nearly 7 million. Holliday would have been an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and re-signing him was a priority, new Miami coach Cam Cameron said Wednesday. "Not only has he been a major part of one of the league's top defensive units the last two years, but he also has been one of the key veteran leaders in the locker room," Cameron said in a statement. "In addition, it addresses one of our top offseason priorities, which is to retain our own players who have been productive." Holliday started all 16 games last year and finished fourth on the team with 66 tackles, including seven sacks, which tied for third among NFL interior linemen. He helped the Dolphins rank fourth in the NFL in yards allowed.
Jets: Kevan Barlow's tenure as the successor to Curtis Martin lasted a season. New York released the veteran running back Wednesday after the least-productive season of Barlow's career. He ran for a career-low 370 yards -- third on the team -- and averaged just 2.8 yards per carry. Barlow was acquired from San Francisco last August to jump-start a running game that was without an injured Martin. Instead, rookie Leon Washington emerged as a prime playmaker and second-year back Cedric Houston got lots of playing time late in the season. Barlow started just three of the 12 games he played in for the Jets, although he led the team with six rushing touchdowns. Also Wednesday, the Jets released offensive lineman Trey Teague, re-signed cornerback Hank Poteat, and signed safety Raymond Ventrone to a reserve-future contract.
Bengals: Linebacker Odell Thurman pleaded no contest Wednesday to driving drunk last September and said he was undergoing treatment for alcohol abuse. Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge John Burlew imposed a 90-day jail sentence but said Thurman did not have to start serving it yet. Another court hearing was set for June 5, at which the judge said he planned to reduce the sentence if Thurman, 23, continues treatment and has no other alcohol-related offenses. He suspended Thurman's driver's license for a year and fined him 250 and court costs.
