Board of control expected to ratify jail agreement
YOUNGSTOWN — The city’s board of control has decided to have its special meeting to ratify the jail agreement on Friday.
Mayor Jay Williams, one of the board's three members, said Wednesday the board would meet Friday or Monday to vote on the tentative agreement to house city misdemeanor prisoners in the Mahoning County jail.
City council approved legislation Wednesday permitting the board to approve the deal.
County commissioners ratified the agreement Feb. 7. It calls for the county to house the first 71 city misdemeanor prisoners, effective May 1, for the cost of meals and medical costs not covered by the county’s health insurance, and to pay a flat $68.84 per misdemeanor inmate from the 72nd until the city reaches its ceiling of 221 inmates.
