Milton Township to get new firetruck

LAKE MILTON -- By year's end, the Milton Township Volunteer Fire Department will be equipped with a new and updated tanker/pumper truck.
At Tuesday's trustees meeting, township Clerk Leni Schulz said that a 285,000 Federal Emergency Management Agency grant and 15,000 from the township will be used to buy the truck, which will replace a 32-year-old vehicle in the department's fleet.
A five-member firefighters committee is looking for the most practical kind of vehicle to serve the township's needs. A decision regarding the type of vehicle to be bought could be made within the next seven to 10 days, Chief Rick Pellin noted. The truck's tanker will likely have a 3,000-gallon water capacity, Pellin said, adding that it might take nine to 10 months for the manufacturer to build the vehicle to suit the township's needs.
