GROVE CITY, Pa. -- After dropping both regular season contests to the Yellow Jackets, Grove City jumped out to a 45-33 halftime lead before rolling to a 29-point win against Waynesburg in the Presidents' Athletic Conference tournament. GCC held a 43-17 rebounding advantage in the win. The Wolverines boasted a balanced scoring attack with five players in double figures, paced by senior Mark Smith with 14 points. Senior Craig Hallman added a double-double for GCC with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. For the Yellow Jackets, senior Beau Wilson had 15 points.
Washington & amp; Jefferson 67, Thomas More 49
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Presidents led the Saints 31-24 at the half, then pulled away in the second eriod for the 18-point home victory. Washington & amp; Jefferson placed four scorers in double figures, with senior Jon Koch leading the way with 17 points. Sophomore Wahab Olowabi added 14 points.
Bethany 94, Thiel 80
BETHANY, W.Va. -- The two-time defending PAC champions outgunned the Tomcats, as Bethany led 42-30 at the half and led by as many as 26 points (88-62) with 5:19 to play. Leading the Bison offensive attack was junior Brody Jackson with 22 points, while senior Marc Palermo (Ursuline) added 15 markers off the bench. Thiel was led by junior forward Joe Herrmann, who poured in a game-high 36 points on 15-of-19 shooting from the field, while also collecting a game-high eight rebounds. Sophomore Brandon Mirizio (Kennedy Catholic) added 18 points in the loss.
WOMEN
Washington & amp; Jefferson 73, Thiel 48
WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Presidents (19-7), who entered the tournament as the number three seed, shot 57.4 percent (31-54) from the floor and were led by Emily Hays' 16-point, eight-rebound effort. Kennan Killeen added 13 points, four assists and three rebounds in the win. The sixth-seeded Tomcats (8-17) knocked down just 30.2 percent (19-63) of their field goal tries. Thiel was paced by sophomore forward Amber Bodrick (Cardinal Mooney) who had 14 points and four rebounds. Senior forward Nicole Valentino (Sharon) chipped in with nine points and five boards.
Bethany 65, Waynesburg 61
BETHANY, W.Va. -- The Bison raced to a 10-point (32-22) halftime, only to see the Yellow Jackets rally to tie the game late, the last at 59-59 with a minute to place. Bethany went ahead for good on a driving layup by junior Lisa Mitchell with 47.6 seconds left, then secured a charging call on Waynesburg's next possession to take control down the stretch. Mitchell led four Bison scorers in double figures with a game-high 16 points, while freshman Nicole Thompson added 14 points. Waynesburg was paced by senior Katie Lewandowski with 13 points and five assists.
