Canfield clinches share of MAC crown with victory
SALEM -- Canfield shot 66.7 percent from the field in defeating Salem, 71-36, in a Metro Athletic Conference boys basketball game Saturday night.
The Cardinals made 30-of-45 from the field and led 40-18 at halftime.
Sean Baker led Canfield (16-2, 12-1) by scoring 16 points, while Joe Carbon added 13 and Matt Firestone finished with 12. With the win, the Cardinals clinched a share of the MAC crown. They can win it out right if they beat Campbell on Thursday.
Zack O'Brien and Greg Woolman led Salem (1-17, 1-12 MAC) with eight points each.
Poland 70, East Liverpool 44
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Chris Lovell scored 14 points and David Baker added 10 for the Bulldogs in a MAC win.
Thirteen players scored the Bulldogs (15-3, 10-3), who led 36-14 at halftime.
Matt Phillips and Tony Metsch scored 11 points each for East Liverpool (5-15, 3-11 MAC).
Hubbard 42, Newton Falls 40
NEWTON FALLS -- Hubbard's (13-4, 10-4) Corey Hitt a shot at the buzzer for the victory in a Trumbull Athletic Conference game.
Frank Rosile paced the Eagles with 14 points. Marcus Fowler led the Tigers (10-8, 8-5) with 10 points.
Farrell 85, Sharpsville 44
FARRELL -- Sophomore Traphael Stubbs had 15 points, senior Torlando Hopson 13, senior Josh Williams 12 and junior Donald Jackson 10 as Farrell (20-2) won its 15th in a row.
Farrell won an earlier game between the teams, 76-31.
Farrell's two losses were to Warren Harding and North Canton Hoover.
