KINDERGARTEN Registration



Schools are registering children for kindergarten for the 2007-08 school year. In most cases, children must be 5 years old by Sept. 30 and have proof of proper immunizations, their birth certificate, a Social Security number and proof of residency at the time of registration. Proof of legal custody also may be required. Any additional requirements are listed with each school.
Lakeview: Registration at Bazetta Elementary School will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. March 8 at the school, 2755 Bazetta Road N.E., Warren. This is the second and final registration date.
Niles: Registration and screening will be done by appointment only March 26-30 at Niles Middle School, 411 Brown St. Registration packets are available at the administration building, 100 West St., and appointments will be scheduled when parents or guardians pick up those packets.
Youngstown: Registrations will be accepted March 6-9. Parents must contact their home area schools for particular times for morning and afternoon sessions.
Sharpsville: Parents or guardians must call the Sharpsville Elementary School at (724) 962-7168, Ext. 6 to secure a registration packet and screening information. Screening dates will be the week of April 30-May 4. To be eligible, children must be 5 years old before Sept. 1.
Lowellville: Registration will continue next week because of the inclement weather. Parents may register from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
Canfield: Registration for kindergarten and new pupils in grades 1-4 will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. March 29 at Hilltop Elementary, 400 Hilltop Blvd., and C.H. Campbell Elementary, 30 Moreland Drive. Registration should be made at the school the child will attend. For people unable to register on that day, the elementary school offices will be open on weekdays to accept registrations. Children must be residents of the Canfield district. Children being registered for first grade must be age 6 on or before Sept. 30 and have completed a successful year in kindergarten.
Akiva Academy: Screening will begin Feb. 27 for children who have completed the enrollment application for the 2007-08 school year. Reservations must be made for the screening that will be conducted off-site. A second screening will be done in the spring. Akiva is scheduling reading and math assessments for pupils transferring to Akiva from other schools. Families living in Liberty, Warren and Youngstown who are eligible to participate in the EdChoice scholarship program should be aware that the state's deadline for processing is April 20.
