Hanolt's record 35 propels E. Palestine



McDonald and Western Reserve won against Tier One opponents.
LISBON -- Dan Hanolt scored a season-high 35 points on Friday to lead the East Palestine High basketball team to a 70-46 non-conference victory over Beaver Local.
Hanolt, a 6-foot-5-inch senior, also grabbed 12 rebounds for the Inter Tri-County League Tier One champions with a 12-1 league record.
Junior Nick DiCello had eight assists for the Bulldogs (15-2).
East Palestine closes its league schedule today against Mineral Ridge. The junior-varsity game starts at 2 p.m.
Ethan Russell's 13 points placed Beaver Local.
McDonald 66, Mineral Ridge 61
McDONALD -- The Blue Devils, behind 43-40 after three quarters, outscored the Rams 26-18 for the victory.
Bradley Hinton scored 21 points and grabbed 13 of the Blue Devils' rebounds. Andy Timko chipped in with 17 points.
For the Rams, Nick Miele scored 14 points while Dan Hawout, had 13 and Cory Gustovich 12.
T.J. Bevilacqua had 10 points and six assists.
Western Reserve 71, United 39
BERLIN CENTER -- The Blue Devils were one 3-pointer short of tying the team record of 12 in the ITCL Tier Two team's win over the Tier One Golden Eagles.
Jerod Barker had five 3-pointers and John Porterfield four, while Dave Drevna had two long-distance goals for the Blue Devils (15-2).
Porter attempted five 3's while Barker tried nine. Western Reserve was 11 of 27.
The offensive flow was inside-out on Friday, when Reserve kicked the ball back out for open shot attempts.
Chris Tofilski, a 6-4 senior, grabbed 10 rebounds, nine of which were on the offensive boards.
Porterfield totaled 18 points, Tofilski 16 and Barker 15. Barker and Porterfield and Tofilski are all seniors.
Western Reserve scored 25 points in the second quarter when the Blue Devils converted four 3s.
South Range 59, Crestview 49
NORTH LIMA -- Inspired by senior-parent night, the Raiders stepped up as David Maxwell and David Rach scored 19 and 17 points, respectively.
Zac Bierdeman added 12 points for the winners (7-13).
Rach also had 12 rebounds. South Range's other seniors are Josh Less, Jeff Pilcher, Sean Seidler and Scott Yeagley.
Tony Amabile had a game-high 28 points for Crestview, which beat South Range by three points earlier this season following a fourth-quarter comeback.
Southern 52, Lisbon 30
SALINEVILLE -- Tyler Baker scored 18 points, Ethan Blatch had 12 (on four 3-pointers) and Darren Mills scored 10 to lead Southern.
The Indians led 26-12 at halftime.
Arland Bailey scored 11 points to lead Lisbon.
