Yambar to visit local gallery
THE VINDICATOR
NILES -- Chris Yambar, an internationally recognized pop artist and comic book creator, will appear at Art Outreach Gallery at Eastwood Mall on Saturday.
An exhibit of his work titled "Super Nova -- The Chris Yambar Show" is on display at the gallery. It includes more than 150 canvas images, reverse-glass paintings and original comic art pages.
The Youngstown native will sign his comic books from 1 to 3 p.m. At 5 p.m., he will give a tour of his exhibit. The event is free and open to the public.
Yambar's reverse-glass paintings include colorized live-concert images of classic rock icons such as Led Zeppelin, KISS, Madonna, U2, Rod Stewart, Queen, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen and others taken by Cleveland photographer Janet Macoska.
The canvas paintings, in Yambar's signature pop-art style, include selections from his Disney collection, turn-of-the-century portraits of American Indians, celebrities and autographed portraits of Marvel Comics creator Stan Lee and the cast of "Star Wars."
Also on display are actual comic art production pages from his award-winning independent comics "Mr. Beat," "El Mucho Grande" and "Suicide Blonde," to name a few.
Yambar's works can be found in celebrity collections and in numerous museum, gallery and pop culture collections around the world.
The gallery is open from 5-9 p.m. Friday; 1-9 p.m. Saturday; and 1-5 p.m. Sunday.
