Didn't know I had it so good
EDITOR:
Wow! Imagine my surprise when that great guru of economic truth, columnist Jay Ambrose, finally pointed out to me how stupid and uninformed I have been for over 70 years, with his article "Democrats aim for another depression" in the Jan. 31 Vindicator.
Imagine me, a middle class senior citizen living on a limited, fixed income never until now realizing I have it so much better than I had it back in the 1950s, '60s and '70s, when eight hours of work five days a week bought me a decent house, a nice car, fed a family of four, with enough left over for a nice vacation, and to go to a movie and eat out once or twice a month. Oh, yes; I could buy a prescription at the corner drug store without first stopping to figure out if we could eat for the rest of the month.
Sheesh! I'm still slapping my own forehead over my uniformed stupidity. How could I have been so dumb? Thank you, Mr. Ambrose.
Just one question: I'd like to find out what Mr. Ambrose was smoking when he wrote that column, and if it's not illegal I'd like to get some.

More physical education would mean smaller kids
EDITOR:
I am a freshman at Jackson-Milton High School. I believe that schools need to promote a healthier lifestyle for their students. More kids are obese these days partially because schools don't have that many physical education classes, and the lunches leave something to be desired. I think that schools should require a semester of PE classes until students graduate.
Our physical education teacher, Mr. Mikovich, says that he changed how gym is taught for Jackson-Milton middle and high school students. He started to have fitness days by running the stairs, riding exercise bikes and jumping rope for ten minutes each. Mr. Mikovich does this for the kids' health. He and I don't want to see the kids obese and out of shape. Every school should have physical education classes through middle school and high school each year, not just one semester that is required to graduate now.
A middle school in Downey, Calif., has 1,200 students who attend physical education classes during school, and they also have PE classes after school too. I think that this would be a great idea for every school to have. Every school should make these kids go to these classes if they don't want to or not. Most kids go home and eat junk food and play video games. Kids need to start thinking about their health. I think that you would see a different appearance in everybody from their body weight to how they act if they start watching what they eat, and if they exercise a couple of times a week. I think that they would feel better about themselves too.
I believe that one of the reasons why kids are obese these day is because of what they get in school. They barely get exercise and they definitely don't get enough fruit and vegetables. Schools need to act in the best interest now and in the future of the students, before it becomes an even "bigger" problem.

A great way to fly
EDITOR:
In attempting to secure flights to Florida recently, as a last resort I checked out the Allegiant Air and the Youngstown Warren regional airport. Wow, what a great experience. A great facility, cheap parking, no long wait for check in, and my flights (admittedly deeply discounted) were only 39 plus Uncle Sam each way.
Since then I have tuned in to the Fly Youngstown Blog and found their poll. Apparently there may be an opportunity for Allegiant to look at Youngstown for additional flights.
Go to http://yngair.wordpress.com and vote in their poll on what flights you would like to see at Youngstown.
