Men’s Garden Club conducts installation , marks 77 years


YOUNGSTOWN — The Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown celebrated 77 years of service to the Mahoning Valley and installed officers for 2008 during a Christmas dinner held Dec. 12 at A La Cart Catering in Canfield.

Inducted by William Cranny, civics committee chairman, were John C. Schinker, president; Daniel P. Burns, first vice president; Harry King, second vice president; Robert J. McGowan, treasurer; John P. Kolar, recording secretary; and David Williams, corresponding secretary. The president and vice presidents are elected to two-year terms.

Members and guests were welcomed by Hugh Earnhart, outgoing president, and entertainment was provided by the Mahoning Valley Button Box Club.

The garden club was founded in 1930 as the Steel City Garden Club and is dedicated to promoting a better understanding of gardening through education and horticultural diversity for all segments of the community. Meetings are held the first Monday of each month at Mill Creek Park.
