Grove City 10 points short at Marietta


MARIETTA — Grove City had four players reach double figures and the Wolverines committed just five turnovers but lost to Marietta 95-85 at the Marietta Shrine Tournament Sunday. Grove City shot 51 percent (33-of-65) but Marietta made 16-of-28 3-pointers. Junior Ryan Gibson led the Wolverines (7-3) with 17 points while Andy O’Keefe added 15 points and five assists. Both players were named to the all-tournament team. Ryan Gerber and Joe McCoy added 12 points each for Grove City.

Marietta (4-7), which took control with a 26-7 run in the second half, was led by tournament MVP Isaiah Creasap’s 27 points, including eight 3-pointers. Jordan Cox added 22 points.

Loras 73, Thiel 59

DEFIANCE — Nick Sefcsik scored 17 points and added four rebounds and four assists for the Tomcats (5-4) in the consolation game of the Purple and Gold Financial Tournament, hosted by Defiance College. Freshman Tommy Hall (Campbell) added 10 points and 10 rebounds for Thiel. Saturday Thiel lost to Defiance, 69-49. Hall had 12 points and six rebounds for the Tomcats, while Joe Herrmann had 10 points and nine rebounds.

Lewis & Clark (Ore.) 72, Westminster 54

PHOENIX — Ryne Murray scored 15 points for the Titans in the Trip Sports Classic, hosted by Grand Canyon University. Senior Craig Hannon (Union) tied the school record for career 3-pointers with 314. Hannon had two Saturday as he finished with 10 points. Rob Nogay (1993-97) held the record. Murray also had 13 rebounds for the Titans (2-9), who play Wisconsin-River Falls today at 6 p.m. Kevin Mayberry also scored 10 points.

Mount Union 77, Wesley 66

WOOSTER — Mount Union got 19 points from Chris Switzer and 18 from Dave Pellerite to win the consolation game of the Mose Hole/Wooster Kiwanis Classic. Jay Mathis added 10 points and 12 rebounds for the Purple Raiders (3-8), while Chris Crawford scored 12 points. Sam King had 10 assists.

Women

BERLIN — Kellyn Murphy led Malone with 14 points but the Pioneers lost 70-49 to Wheeling Jesuit in a game played at Hiland High School. Allyson Wilson added nine points for Malone (2-10), while Nicole Feher had six rebounds. Lindsay Stuckey scored 16 points for Wheeling Jesuit (2-5).
