Third quarter leads Hubbard over Range


Springfield knocked off Struthers and East Palestine edged Mooney.

NORTH LIMA — Hubbard outscored South Range 22-4 in the third period to break open a close game, and went on to a 66-45 win Saturday night in a boys high school basketball game.

Corey Hitt scored 18 points, Kurtis Drummond 14 and Robert Wigfall 10 to pace the Eagles (5-2), who put 10 players in the scoring column.

Jack Dawson scored 10 points to lead South Range (2-8), Travis Wisler adding eight.

Springfield 69, Struthers 50

STRUTHERS — Nate Schuler scored 23 points and Travis Kibby added 16 as Springfield (6-3) pulled away from Struthers in the second half.

The Wildcats (4-4) trailed only 23-18 at halftime. Nick Jacubec led Struthers with 10 points.

Newton Falls 74, Southeast 39

NEWTON FALLS — Newton Falls jumped out to a 20-8 first quarter lead and was never threatened as it improved to 4-3.

Marcus Fowler led the Tigers with 23 ponts, while Southeast (3-6) was led by Alvie Thomas with 15 points.

East Palestine 58, Mooney 52

EAST PALESTINE — Ben Gysin registered 23 points and grabbed some 10 rebounds to lead East Palestine (5-3).

Wes Best added 14 points and J.C. Bollinger 10 to bolster the Bulldogs, who outscored the Cardinals in the third period with balanced scoring, 15-9, to take control.

Nick DiCello added six points and seven assists for the winners.

Ronnie Martino had 20 points, including three 3-point goals, to lead Mooney (3-4), Mike Gemma adding 12 points.
