Mamula, 64, whose last official day in office is Monday, was the longest-sitting mayor in Struthers history. A rundown of his life and career:

Wife: Lorraine, a graduate of Lowellville High School, who works as a caregiver for Comfort Keepers.

Children: Sherry Weitzman of Poland, Daniel Jr. and Traci Whitacre, both of Struthers.

Grandchildren: Robert Whitacre and Kaelyn and Ryan Weitzman.

Parents: Louis and the late Novella Mamula of Lowellville.

Hometown: Lowellville.

Residence: Struthers, since moving there in 1969.

Education: Lowellville High School, 1961; Youngstown University, bachelor of science degree in 1965; Kent State University, masters’ degree in public administration in 1970.

Occupation: Teacher, Struthers High School for 31 years, taught social sciences for 28 years and was environmental education director for three years teaching a classroom “without walls.” He also was a baseball coach for five years at the high school, including three years as head coach. Currently, he is a part-time political science instructor at Youngstown State University.

Public service: Four, two-year terms as councilman at-large; one, two-year term as council president; four, four-year terms as mayor.

Memberships: A member of the boards of directors/trustees for the CASTLO Industrial Park in Struthers; Mahoning Valley Economic Development Corp.; Eastgate Regional Council of Governments. He also was involved in the creation of the Mahoning River Corridor of Opportunity, a regional economic development partnership.
