Ex-deputy sheriff released after 26 months


PITTSBURGH (AP) — A former Allegheny County deputy sheriff has been released from prison after serving 26 months for lying to a grand jury. Former Capt. Frank Schiralli is among two former deputies sent to prison after a five-year federal investigation into allegations of improper political fundraising tactics.

Former Sheriff Pete DeFazio retired last year after pleading guilty to macing, the practice of pressuring subordinates to contribute to political campaigns. Former Chief Deputy Dennis Skosnik is serving a five-year sentence. A third top aide was placed on probation.
