Heidi Hanni files to run for county prosecutor
YOUNGSTOWN — Heidi Hanni of Boardman has filed to run in the Democratic primary for Mahoning County prosecutor.
Hanni, 44, would face Prosecutor Paul J. Gains, 55, of Boardman in the March 4 primary. Gains would be seeking his fourth four-year term.
Hanni failed in her one attempt at public office, losing the 2000 Democratic primary for the former 65th Ohio House District seat. Hanni is the daughter of Don L. Hanni Jr., a former Mahoning County Democratic Party chairman and one of the area’s most well-known criminal defense attorneys.
A number of Mahoning County incumbents have recently filed to retain their seats, including Probate Court Judge Mark Belinky, Domestic Relations Judge Beth A. Smith, 7th District Court of Appeals Judge Joseph J. Vukovich, Engineer Richard Marsico, Sheriff Randall Wellington, Commissioner John A. McNally, Recorder Noralynn Palermo, Clerk of Courts Anthony Vivo, Common Pleas Court Judges Maureen A. Sweeney, R. Scott Krichbaum and John M. Durkin.
Challengers include Eric C. Ungaro for one commissioner seat, Mary Roby Lyden for McNally’s commissioner seat, David P. Aey for sheriff, Anil Choudray Nalluri for coroner, Lou A. D’Apolito for a common pleas seat, and James Lanzo for probate court judge.
