Wrongful death suit filed in 2005 double murder

WARREN —Melissa Barry, whose mother and grandmother were murdered in Newton Township in 2005, has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the three imprisoned people convicted in the deaths.

Barry, of Cortland, filed the suit in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court Thursday, naming as defendants Jermaine McKinney, Jazzmine McIver and Kenyatta J. Riley Hines .

Barry is the administratrix of the estates of her mother, Rebecca A. Cliburn, and her grandmother, Wanda G. Rollyson, who were both murdered in Rollyson’s Newton Bailey Road home Dec. 21, 2005.

McKinney, 27, of Youngstown, was convicted of two counts of murder and sentenced to life in prison without parole eligibility for killing the two women.

McIver, 23, and Riley Hines, 22, both of Warren, got five and six years, respectively, for their roles in the murders.

All began serving their sentences in late 2006.

The suit says Barry and other beneficiaries of Rollyson and Cliburn have suffered and continue to suffer damages for the loss of the two women. The suit also seeks damages from the three for the suffering of the two women during the time immediately before their deaths.

The suit seeks more than $25,000 in compensatory damages from each defendant, as well unspecified punitive damages from each.
