Standoff ends with man’s arrest

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Pennsylvania State Police in Lawrence County had a two-hour standoff on Christmas Day with a man who barricaded himself in his home with a weapon.

Daniel G. Wimer, 51, of Old Route 422 is charged with terroristic threats, recklessly endangering another person, carrying a firearm without a license, aggravated assault and resisting arrest. He was placed in the Lawrence County Jail after failing to post a $50,000 bond.

Police said Wimer went to the home a 58-year-old male relative at 5:35 p.m. with a loaded revolver, and the two argued over an ongoing domestic dispute. Police did not give details of the dispute.

According to police, Wimer threatened the relative with the revolver and fired two shots but did not hit the victim.

Police said Wimer then left the relative’s home and went to his own residence where he barricaded himself for two hours.

The trooper eventually lured him to the front porch and forcibly arrested him. Police said he fought with troopers and tried to hit them during his arrest.
