Looking for something to do in the next week? Here’s a few high school events we’d suggest:

BOYS HOOPS AT CHANEY

Two nights of doubleheaders, featuring the host Cowboys against Boardman, Fitch and Poland tonight and Saturday. Tonight at 6, Poland’s fast-paced attack will go against Fitch’s tough defense, followed by the Spartans and Chaney. Saturday, Boardman gets its shot at the Bulldogs, then Fitch renews its West Side rivalry with the Cowboys.

CANFIELD VS. HATHAWAY BROWN

Coach Pat Pavlansky’s Cards don’t shy from quality competition. Canfield has already played non-league games against Canton McKinley, Boardman, East and West Branch, and tonight they play host to Hathaway Brown, which finished 22-5 last season and was Division II state runner-up.

BOARDMAN GIRLS HOOPS

Another program that doesn’t avoid strong opponents. The Spartans travel to Pickerington (just south of Columbus) for three games, starting Friday against Oak Ridge (Tenn.), which is 11-0 and is averaging 66 points per game. (The Spartans are averaging 61.3 … what’s the chance this will be a high-scoring game?) Boardman will play two more games in the tournament, finishing up Sunday — just in time for back-to-back home games the first week of the new year against rivals Fitch and Ursuline.

WRESTLING

Fitch, which knows something about putting on a first-class tournament, travels to the Brecksville Invitational Friday and Saturday. This will be the 47th edition of the Brecksville event, which organizers claim is the oldest holiday tourney in the U.S. The Falcons will compete against over 40 other programs at the tournament, which will feature 13 defending Ohio state champions.

HARDING BOYS HOOPS

The Raiders 6-0 and haven’t had a game decided by fewer than six points. They’ll be tested Friday night at Barberton in the Greynolds Classic by Canton GlenOak. The Golden Eagles don’t have 7-footer Kousta Koufos any more, but they’re 5-1 and play pretty stout defense.
