Predators 3, Blue Jackets 1

COLUMBUS — J.P Dumont broke a tie with 38 seconds left, and Chris Mason made 30 saves in Nashville’s victory. David Legwand had a power-play goal, and Jed Ortmeyer added an empty-netter for the Predators in their second straight victory after a five-game losing streak. Nashville also has won 11 straight, including three this season, against Columbus dating to April 3, 2006. Dumont was credited with his 10th goal of the season after a video review. His shot hit a post inside the upper net and quickly returned to the playing surface. Dan Fritsche scored Columbus, 0-for-4 on the power play. The Blue Jackets are 5-for-56 with the man advantage in their last 13 games. Legwand opened the scoring at 14:07 of the second period, one-timing a long rebound past goalie Fredrik Norrena’s outstretched glove. Fritsche tied it at 11:46 of the third. Jiri Novotny negated an icing call, then Fritsche curled around from the backboard to beat Mason. The Blue Jackets entered with the third-fewest goals scored in the league and only three goals in their last three games.

Senators 3, Rangers 1

NEW YORK — Chris Kelly snapped a second-period tie, and Martin Gerber came back from a day off to lead Ottawa over Sean Avery and New York. Gerber, who sat out the Senators’ 4-3 overtime loss to Chicago at home on Saturday night, made 34 saves to earn his fourth win in five outings. He gave up Scott Gomez’s goal 3:42 in and then held off New York the rest of the way. Jason Spezza and Kelly wiped out an early deficit for the Senators, who lead the Eastern Conference with 50 points (23-8-4). Ottawa got back to its winning ways after going 0-1-1 following six straight victories. Mike Fisher made it 3-1 when his shot from the right point, after a turnover by New York’s Chris Drury, hit Rangers defenseman Marc Staal and caromed in at 9:08 of the third period. The Senators took the season series 3-1 and have won 16 of 20 from the Rangers since the 2002-03 season. Avery returned to the Rangers after missing 11 games following wrist surgery.

Thrashers 3, Blues 2, OT

ST. LOUIS — Marian Hossa scored on a break-in at 19 seconds of overtime after a defensive mistake, and Ilya Kovalchuk scored his NHL-leading 29th goal for Atlanta. Hossa swept in alone on goalie Manny Legace after Jay McKee fumbled the puck in the air and then lost control after Eric Perrin flipped it into the St. Louis zone. The Thrashers have won four in a row, beating Montreal by the same score in a shootout Saturday, after losing their previous four games, and won in St. Louis for the first time in franchise history. Kovalchuk has 25 goals and 16 assists in the last 28 games for the Thrashers, who climbed above .500 at 18-17-1. Mark Recchi tied it in the third period with his fourth goal in seven games since being claimed off re-entry waivers on Dec. 8.

Blackhawks 3, Oilers 2

CHICAGO — Defenseman Brent Seabrook had his first two-goal game in the NHL, and Nikolai Khabibulin made 25 saves for Chicago. Seabrook’s second goal, at 1:20 of the third period, broke a 2-2 tie. His drive from the right wing beat goalie Mathieu Garon on the short side. Patrick Sharp also scored for the Blackhawks in their third straight victory. Tom Gilbert and Dustin Penner connected for the Oilers.

Devils 1, Flames 0, OT

CALGARY, Alberta — Martin Brodeur broke a tie with George Hainesworth for second place on the NHL’s career shutout list, making 30 saves in New Jersey’s overtime win. Brodeur has three shutouts this season to push his career total to 95. Terry Sawchuk tops the list with 103. Patrik Elias scored the lone goal, beating Miikka Kiprusoff at 25 seconds of the extra period. Kiprusoff finished with 21 saves.

Avalanche 3, Canucks 1

DENVER — Cody McCormick and Andrew Brunette scored in a 1:34 span of the third period, and Peter Budaj made 21 saves to help Colorado beat Vancouver. The Avalanche, 5-0-1 in their last six games, moved into a tie for first place with the Canucks in the Northwest Division. With the game tied at 1, Ben Guite and Henrik Sedin battled for the puck on the left boards. Sedin got the puck, but McCormick took it off his stick and fired a shot past Roberto Luongo for the deciding goal with 9:10 left in the game. Less than two minutes later with Vancouver short-handed, Brunette gave Colorado some breathing room with his sixth goal of the season. Luongo made 29 saves in his first regulation loss since a 2-1 setback at Minnesota on Dec. 2.

Stars 4, Canadiens 1

DALLAS — Linemates Mike Ribeiro, Antti Miettinen and Brenden Morrow scored goals as Dallas beat Montreal. Stu Barnes added a goal, and Ribeiro also had two assists in his first game against his former team to help the Stars improve to 6-1 in their last seven games. Marty Turco stopped 17 shots, missing his 32nd career shutout when Andrei Markov got his ninth of the season at 13:35 of the final period. In the nine games they have skated as a line this season, Miettinen, Morrow and Ribeiro have either scored or assisted on 20 of Dallas’ 30 goals.
