Fitch girls gain first Federal League win


The Falcons won on the road at Canton GlenOak 53-47.

CANTON — Fitch’s Kayla Hanuschak and Samantha Rovan combined to scored 31 points as the Falcons defeated Canton GlenOak, 53-47, Saturday, for their first Federal League victory of the season.

Hanuschak finished with 16 points for Fitch (3-6, 1-2 FL), while Rovan had 15.

Katie Cappello led GlenOak (3-4, 0-3) with 13 points and Sarah Monnot added 12.

Hockey

GARFIELD HEIGHTS — Canfield advanced to the championship game of the Garfield Christmas Tournament, but lost to Garfield Heights, 6-4.

The Cardinals advanced to the final with victories against Twinsburg (5-0) and CVCA (9-1). Canfield lost to Garfield Heights, 5-2, in the preliminary round.

The Cardinals were led by Nick Manos with four goals and two assists. Riley Emery and Chad Fischer added two goals and four assists each, while Greg Firestone had three goals and two assists. Tyler Buchenic had two goals and two assists, Ryan Meditz had three goals and one assist, Dan Johns had one goal and three assists, Scott Sittig had one goal and two assists, Chris Schade and Nick Carney had two assists apiece, Gary Tomko had one goal and one assist, Max Siegle had one goal and Mike Haurin had one assist.

Brian Moore had a 3.33 goals against average and John Neher was the winning goalie against CVCA.

Wrestling

CANFIELD — Canfield went 2-1 and Hubbard was 1-2 at the four-team Canfield HolidayDuals.

The Cardinals defeated Tuscarawas Valley, 51-21, and Hubbard, 46-24, and lost to Bedford Chanel, 45-21.

Hubbard also lost to Chanel, 53-18, but defeated Tuscarawas Valley, 45-24.

Chanel defeated Tuscarawas Valley 57-6.

Named Most Valuable Wrestlers were Canfield’s Braylin Bellino (112 pounds) and Hubbard’s Sean Perry (130). Chanel’s Joey Keifer (119) and Nick Herron (130) of Tuscarawas Valley were also selected.
