for New Year’s Eve
GIRARD — Girard Knights of Columbus will hold a New Year’s Eve dinner-dance on Dec. 31 at the K. of C. Hall, 122 S. State St.
Doors open at 7 p.m. and dinner will be served at 7:30.
The cost is $25 per person. For tickets, call Dom Ezzo at (330) 545-4191.
Setups will be provided but bring your own bottle. Music will be by the Rocco Monaco Band.
Night at the races
will raise school funds
NEWTON FALLS — Sts. Mary and Joseph School’s faculty and staff is sponsoring a Night at the Races Feb. 2, 2008, at St. Mary’s Social Hall, 120 Maple Drive.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m., a buffet begins at 6:30, and post time is 7. All proceeds from the event will go to the school’s general account to help with utilities and general building maintenance.
There are four levels of support for this event: A Horse Sponsor donation costs $20 and includes admission, dinner and drinks, your name and your horse’s name listed in the official souvenir program. If your horse wins his race, you receive $10 plus the betting odds back (must be present). An admission ticket donation costs $15 and includes admission, dinner and drinks. An Event Supporter costs $20 and includes business name and phone number or family name on advertisement page of souvenir program and a receipt for a tax deduction. The Event Speaker level is for any amount over $25 and will include family name on special donations pa ge of souvenir program and a tax-deduction receipt.

Make-A-Wish Foundation
plans Chevy Centre event
The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Greater Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana is having its annual Casino Night from 6:30 to 11 p.m. Feb. 22, 2008, at the Chevrolet Centre, 229 E. Front St. Featured will be an open bar, hors d’oeuvres, live music and gaming that benefits the foundation, which grants the wishes of children who have life-threatening medical conditions. All local contributions are used to fulfill the wishes of children in Northeast Ohio, where there are 106 wishes pending.
Reservations are required. The cost is $60 for an individual ticket. Corporate sponsorship and “High Roller” limo packages are also available. Contact Julie Scarsella, regional manager, at (330) 965-9085 to reserve tickets.
Greenford Ruritans
have Christmas party
The Greenford Ruritan Club held its annual Christmas party at A La Cart Catering on Dec. 15. Cary Hull presided over a short business meeting. The 2008 club officers and directors were introduced, and Ed Kurtz conducted the installation ceremony for the new officers.
Fred Hoff reported that nearly 1000 food items were collected for the 18 Christmas baskets that were distributed to needy families in the community.
The club members and guests were entertained by comedian-magician Eric Thompson.
