Weather reports for Sunday made a passing mention of snow, but wintry weather returned Sunday night to the Valley. And though dreams of a white Christmas may come true, the snow created dangerous road conditions for drivers.

Trumbull County Emergency Dispatch said it had reports of 34 minor accidents, fender benders and cars in ditches between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Sunday when a sudden snowstorm created icy and hazardous road conditions. Ohio State Highway Patrol reported 15 accidents in about the same time frame. The accidents occurred on state Routes 46, 11 and 82.

Trumbull dispatch reported that Route 82 from Route 46 to Route 11 was closed from about 7 to 9 p.m. because of the accidents and road conditions. ODOT and Trumbull County engineeers began salting the roadways.

OSP at Warren reported that the cruiser of a trooper who was on the scene of an accident on Route 11, south of Route 82 in Vienna, was hit by an oncoming vehicle that couldn’t stop. Limited information was available at press time, but no injuries were reported at the time.
